The Silver Band took part in the NWABBA Rochdale Contest on Saturday 12th October at Wardle Academy, playing “Variations on Laudate Dominum” and came away with two more pieces of silverware to add to the trophy cabinet, with our Principle Cornet Mike Murfin picking up the best instrumentalist prize, along with the band being placed 2nd overall in our section following hot on the heels from our recent success at the Red Admiral Entertainment Contest.

That now brings the contest season to a close for the Silver Band in 2024, where again we have had another fantastic year under the guidance of our Conductor, Jason M Smith:

• Holme Valley 3rd Section Champions.
• Buxton 3rd Section Champions.
• Whit Friday (Saddleworth) 20th overall (out of 117 bands) entered 8 contests, picking up 6 trophies overall with 4 of the 6 being 3rd Section titles.
• Red Admiral Entertainment Contest 3rd Section Champions (Plus best Euph/Baritones and best Bass sections).
• Rochdale Contest – 2nd overall and best instrumentalist.

The Silver Band still has plenty going on between now and the end of the year with concerts and carolling (see events page for more details)
